Head of Engineering

Our client is a highly advanced manufacturing company, a global industry leader and a successful, established business in Northern Ireland. They have enjoyed consistent growth, a worldwide client base and a distinct culture focused around personal and professional development. For this reason, they have created a new leadership position, a Head of Engineering, who will direct and co-ordinate all engineering activities within the company’s impressive manufacturing facility including equipment maintenance, facility and utility maintenance, process engineering and qualification to ensure overall site goals and objectives are accomplished.

The Head of Engineering will lead and develop teams across Facilities and Process Maintenance, Critical Utilities, Process Engineering and Equipment Validation. They will oversee any acquisition, installation, operation and maintenance of systems and equipment and will be accountable for the finances of the function including developing capital activities to ensure reliability of equipment.

This role will be responsible for strategy development and implementation of systems and processes to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the site. The Head of Engineering will oversee the implementation of highly technical and complex engineering projects creating and developing production machinery, supporting new product introductions and technology transfers, leading continuous improvement efforts across the site. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to establish networks with engineering peers across other global sites and with clients, resulting in further expertise and a richer experience for the individual.

The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • Significant experience in leading an engineering team in a chemical manufacturing, pharmaceutical, medical device, food manufacturing or other highly regulated environment.
  • Knowledge of all phases of project management including architecture and design, electrical, mechanical, structural, telecommunications, life cycle management for capital equipment, line extensions and process product development.
  • Thorough knowledge in the areas of Mechanical, Electrical, and Industrial Engineering, Technical Management, Project Management, Operations/Production and Process Engineering.
  • Experience of Machine Controls, Drafting, Budgeting, Costing, Financial Systems, Communication, Development and GMP, Quality System Regulation, ISO Requirements and Direction Validation.
  • Previous use of inventory and purchasing systems.
  • Certification in Six Sigma, Lean or Total Productive Maintenance would be an advantage.
  • Solid leadership skills with a demonstrable track record in developing direct reports.
  • A third level qualification in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or industrial engineering would be highly desirable.
  • Previous experience of working with a brownfield site or new factory set up is desirable but not essential.
