The Northern Ireland Football League is the governing body of League football in Northern Ireland. It is responsible for promoting and developing many levels of the game, generating significant revenue to support investment into League Clubs each year. NIFL oversees the highest level of domestic football in Northern Ireland within the Danske Bank Premierships across both men's & women's Football, Lough Shore 41 Championship and Premier Intermediate League along with youth and Competitions including the prestigious League Cup.

This is a pivotal time of growth for the Northern Ireland Football League. To support this, they have created a new role for a Head of Marketing & Commercial Partnerships to provide overall strategic leadership and to develop and implement marketing, sales and sponsorship strategies and activities. This position reports to the CEO and as a member of the NIFL leadership team will make a key contribution to the overall strategy, direction and commercial success of the organisation.

The Head of Marketing & Commercial Partnerships will lead and develop the sales and marketing strategy for the organisation, creating detailed operational annual plans with performance milestones to ensure delivery. They will manage existing commercial relationships to ensure that the portfolio is maintained and developed, devising clear strategies for clients to maximise brand impact and effectiveness of spend. The role holder will drive engagement with key sponsorship and partner prospects, leading on complex sales processes and creating high-end, bespoke proposals for potential partners tailored to their business needs and offering unique opportunities. They will work closely with the Head of Communications to optimise marketing, PR and media around the profile of NIFL, the Clubs and the general promotion of football in NI through a multi-channel media strategy, ensuring partnership sales materials meet the highest of standards.

The Head of Marketing & Commercial Partnerships will attend relevant sports and other industry events in the UK and occasionally abroad. They will work with NIFL Clubs on management and delivery of commercial rights and will provide support in developing Club commercial activity including delivery of expert workshops for NIFL Clubs.

Applicants will possess the following skills and attributes:

  • Significant experience at a senior level in a B2B sales and marketing role, setting strategy and achieving high value sales.
  • Strategic thinker with experience of developing advertising campaigns, sponsorships plans or similar activities that deliver against customer strategic priorities.
  • Demonstrable experience in engaging senior stakeholders (including at Board level) and presenting / securing complex business propositions such as sponsorship, advertising or hospitality to strategic decision makers.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, an ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with people at all levels in a wide range of organisations.
  • An ability to analyse data accurately and to interpret it for decision making.
  • Knowledge of Commercial Sponsorship Rights within Football and the UK Sports Market would be an advantage but is not essential.
  • A degree qualification in a business related discipline would be highly desirable.
